Justice For Muslims Collective is launching an 18 days #JusticeForMuslims sustainer drive to coincide with our official JMC membership launch. Eighteen years have passed since the War on Terror was officially launched. While institutionalized Islamophobia isn’t new and Muslims have experienced violence since the inception of the American project, 9/11 was a turning point for our communities. In the past eighteen years, at least 1 million Muslims and people perceived to be Muslim have been killed as a result of the War on Terror. In the past eighteen years, we have seen the passage of the PATRIOT Act, the expansion of mass surveillance, militarized policing, Muslim registries like NSEERS, the FBI’s watchlist and databases, Guantanamo Bay and CMUs, the Muslim Ban, and the build-up of an entire apparatus of institutions like Department of Homeland Security that have wreaked havoc on Muslim communities and beyond. At this eighteen year mark, we firmly believe that only through building the power of our people will we be able to address the harms waged on our communities on a global scale. We hope that you will join us as a member of JMC and if you have the funds, a monthly sustainer as well.
JMC Membership is open to Muslims and people who are perceived to be Muslim, or have been impacted by Islamophobia. The only requirement you would have as a member is to join JMC’s listserv and attend 2 meetings throughout the year, a one - time donation of $5 dollars and we encourage people who are able to afford being sustainers, to give more. If this fee presents a barrier, let us know because we want everyone involved. If you are interested in taking on a bigger role, reach out to us. For JMC allies, you can become a sustainer, join our listserv, donate, and show up to our events to support our work. Membership with JMC will include the following:
Access to monthly membership only meetings, trainings, and workshops
A political home to plug into local campaigns and broader social justice efforts, including organizing, advocacy, and civic engagement
A space to access broader JMC networks and resources, including our monthly HEAL circles with our in-house Chaplain
Build community and find comrades who are committed to dismantling Islamophobia and interconnected systems of oppression
Opportunities to grow in your activism, organizing, and advocacy skills
We hope you will join us as a member and spread the word. We will be hosting an open house where you can come meet the current JMC community on Friday, October 4th from 6:00-8pm at the True Reformer Building (1200 U Street, NW). We ask members to abide by our JMC’s principles here. If you have any questions around the membership, email Darakshan Raja at Darakshan@justiceformuslims.org.
